History: Suzy Sherman was a southern California teenager struggling to break into modeling. But her body had been inexplicably changing. She began developing muscles, ruining her petite figure and destroying her chances at modeling. During an audition, Suzy was attacked by a sentinel claiming that she was a mutant. It was during this encounter that Suzy discovered that she had extraordinary strength and the power of flight. Suzy was able to defeat the Sentinel while a TV news camera recorded the incident. The media dubbed Suzy "Ultra Girl" for her use of the word "Ultra" during an on the spot interview. With the help of her friends, Suzy designed her costume out of wetsuits left over from a modeling job. Suzy's new status as a hero was accepted by the media and her friends. One friend, however, Amber, was uneasy about Suzy's intentions of becoming a super hero. Suzy thought that becoming a super hero would be the ticket to fame she had wanted all her life. She even began receiving offers to endorse products soon after her debut.
Shortly after, Suzy battled the villain Effex alongside the New Warriors. Effex used Hollywood special effects such as pyrotechnics to terrorize public places. During one of Suzy's encounters with Effex she was severely burned. Although painful, Suzy was shocked to discover that her burns healed within a short time. While trying to find the Effex, Suzy was confronted by her friend Amber and others. They told her that they and she were members of the Kree, an alien race, and that she was the the ultimate unifier in a prophecy that would bring peace to the pink-skinned members of the Kree race. Suzy rejected the prophecy, opting not to have her fate decided for her.
Soon after, the New Warriors were able to find Effex and contacted Ultra Girl for help. During the battle that ensued, Effex was injured and died. With his last words he told Suzy that he just wanted to be famous, causing Suzy to rethink her ideas of using her powers to become famous. Ultragirl was offered membership with the New Warriors, but turned them down. She later returned to the sentinel she had destroyed and used it to gain information about the Kree.
Suzy later joined the New Warriors shortly before they disbanded. Not much information is known about her adventures as a New Warrior. She was later targeted on a New Warriors hate site run by former New Warriors, Hindsight after the some New Warriors were inadvertently responsible for over 600 deaths in Stamford, CT. Ultragirl and other former members of the New Warriors confronted Hindsight at his home, forcing him to shut down the website.
Ultragirl was later seen as a member of Captain America's secret Avengers team that opposed the Super Hero Registration Act. But after Captain America forfeited the battle against the pro-registration heroes Suzy became a registered super hero in training with the Avengers: Initiative program. After an attack on The Gauntlet left him in coma, all former members of the New Warriors were held as the prime suspects, including Ultra Girl. Ultra Girl was found not to be the culprit and was soon released. During their time in a cell together, it was revealed that Ultra Girl and Justice, who is a counselor for the Initiative program have developed a secret romantic relationship.
