History:  When Chris' powers manifested he was approached by Jean Grey and Gambit of the X-Men.  Unable to control his powers, Chris' parents thought it best for him to live at the Xavier Institute.  Chris trained in the control of his powers and eventually was able to control them.  However, he soon discovered that he had contracted the terminal Legacy Virus, which only affected mutants.  With this news, Chris decided to return to his family to try and live a normal life.  But due to anti-mutant attitudes, Chris' family was subject to harassment that resulted in their home being burned to the ground.  Chris sought out Maverick in order to help him get revenge on the Friends of Humanity for what they had done.  With the aid of Wolverine and Iceman, they were able to defeat the Friends of Humanity.  Maverick then arranged for Chris and his family to be given new identities and to be relocated to Altamonte Springs, Florida.

With his new life as Brian Johnson just beginning, Chris found that the Legacy Virus was beginning to affect the control he had over his powers.  He ran away from his family and went back to New York to be reunited with his girlfriend, Donna Funaro.  Once again, he became the target of the Friends of Humanity.  he was rescued by Maverick and Elena Ivanova.  During the battle, an explosion allowed the heroes to escape but left Donna believing that Chris had died.  Maverick urged Chris to take on a codename for protection.  It was at this time that he decided on calling himself Bolt.  Chris moved back to New York permanently and was again reunited with Donna.  While there, Chris met with other young heroes, The New Warriors, during a battle against Blastaar.  The New Warriors accepted Bolt as a member on a provisional basis.  For a time, Chris slept on the streets of New York.  He eventually turned to his girlfriend, Donna, for help.  This situation proved problematic as it was difficult to keep it a secret from Donna's parents.  Namorita offered to share her apartment with Chris when she found out about his living situation.  Chris eventually told his teammates about his medical condition and they promised to help to find a cure in any way possible.  Luckily, Beast, a member of the X-Men, discovered a cure and Bolt, along with other mutants, no longer had to fear the Legacy Virus.

Later, when he heard of Maverick's death at the hands of Sabretooth, Chris swore to take revenge.  He trained with Cable in hand to hand combat and eventually took up Maverick's mantle.  He did his best to look, sound, and act exactly like Maverick.  He then joined Cable's underground resistance group in opposing Weapon X.  During this time, Chris confronted and battled Agent Zero, who was actually the former Maverick that Chris believed to be dead.  Chris later infiltrated Gene Nation, pretending to believe in their cause but intending to dismantle the organization from with.  On his first mission for Gene Nation, in which he was sent to aid a terrorist attack in Grand Central Station, Chris was shot and killed by Agent Zero, who believed him to be the perpetrator of the attack.  Agent Zero unmasked Chris to discover that he had unknowingly shot his friend.  Chris died never knowing the identity of Agent Zero.
